"Our task is to get gold," says Canada East´s Leclerc

29. 6. 2018 | David Sokol
The second day of world championship brought a contender for the very best game of the tournament, and again it featured Canada East, this time against Slovakia. Really offensive, fast-paced and tough game was full of heated situations, with Canada being victorious in the end by a score of 7-5. One of the most active players in the game, Canadian forward Justin Leclerc, described this clash of two great teams.

Justin, the Slovaks are one of the top favourites at this Junior World Cup. What did you expect of them and the game?
We all knew they´re a tough team, it´s a European country, they´re good at ball hockey. We expected a good game, like with the USA we played yesterday, they´re good as well. But we expected the Slovaks to be even better. It was just a good game back and forth. It´s just fun to play.

You had an absolute masterclass finish. What happened in the team?
Honestly, we just kept it together, we were all calm and excited. We lost yesterday, so we all wanted to win today. This was a big one for us, and we just feel great.

The game was very physical and fast-paced. Does this style of play suit you?
It was just like at home, maybe even a little less physical, so all the boys were ready for it. This is what we practice for, and we just came ready for it.

The atmosphere was really heated up, and you were involved in a fight in the middle period. How did it all happen?
Honestly, it´s just two great hockey teams playing an intense game. The crowd is unreal, they really support the teams, and they get a lot from both sides.

You picked up a very valuable win. Will that help you psychologically going into the next games?
Oh, for sure (smile). This team was one of the best in the tournament, so the win is really going to help us go forward, and push the task to get gold.

How did you adapt to the time difference between here and Canada?
It was a little tough. Here it´s six hours ahead, so had to get a little sleep to get used to it. But by now we´re all used to it, we had few naps here and there, so it wasn´t that difficult.
