Amazing game! The team was like a family, says Dawson Pasternak

30. 6. 2019 | Matěj Vybíral
Fourteen goals, many chances and a dramatic finish. The final game of the Junior World Cup U16 boys division had everything. Canada West defeated Canada East 8-6 and claimed the tournament victory. Forward Dawson Pasternak, MVP and top scorer of the World Cup, helped the West with one goal and two assists in the final, helping his team to celebrate with the trophy at the end.

Have you seen such a crazy game in your live?
Never! It is unbelievable! Nobody could expect that. The whole tournament we played like a family. It was so tough to beat our opponent, a great team, but we came out on top!

How did you see Neill´s amazing goal, when he passed through two defencemen and the goaltender?
It was the best goal I have ever seen in ball hockey! No doubt.

Can you compare those two games against Canada East?
The first one was also tough and there were not so many goals. This time we knew we wanted the gold medal, we kept fighting even harder and claimed the victory.

How do you feel after getting the gold medal?
I just can´t believe it (smiles).

And what does it mean to you to receive the MVP and top scorer awards?
Seriously, it doesn´t really mean much. If my team or my linemates weren´t here with me, it wouldn´t happen.

How did you enjoy the atmosphere and support from the fans?
I couldn´t have imagined something like that before the start of the game! Unbelievable too. Tournaments like that with international games are awesome.

But you played versus Canada East. How is it to play against guys from same country in a national team?
For sure it´s tough. We speak the same language. We will come back to the same country. I´m so proud that two Canadian teams got to the final.
