Canada West wins big in Zlin

28. 6. 2018 | Derek O´Brien
Seven different players scored as Canada West displayed a balanced attack, defeating USA Blue 7-0 in the first game for both teams in Zlin.

Right from the start, the motivation and the great desire to win was apparent from the Western Canadians. They went on the offence right from the start, so while the Americans were rather defensive from the beginning, giving the Canadians one chance after another. The 9th minute seemed to be the decisive moment of the game, as the Canadians scored three goals in less than a minute. Gradually, Tyler Slavin, Mathew Gerke and Kaidan Johnson took over. The Americans did not respond to the Canadian assault before the first intermission.

The Canadians started the second period with confidence and added three more goals in the first three minutes. Brayden Caldwell, Luke Prokop and Daniel Juca increased their lead to 6-0. Not long after, Jacob Franken notched his team´s seventh goal, putting Canada West in firm control with still 15 minutes to go.

In the final frame, Canada West did not try to add to the lead, but merely tried to keep possession of the ball and keep USA Blue from getting any scoring chances, and they did just that, preserving Jonsen´s shutout.

Reactions

Canada Coach West: We started the game well, we managed to get into the lead and we were the better team. We´re glad that we managed to enter the tournament.

USA Blue Coach: Canada was better today in all aspects, unfortunately we did not succeed at all. We need to improve a lot in the upcoming games.
