Currently unbeaten USA Red entered Saturday´s game unbeaten and wanted to continue in their streak against Slovakia, but the Slovaks started strong and got the lead quickly. Although the Americans showed great effort and were the better team for most of the game, the Slovaks were able to extend their lead in the dying moments of the first period. USA Red cut the Slovak lead in half in the middle period, however, the Slovaks were able to hold on for a 2-1 victory.

Reactions

Coach of Slovakia: We knew it was going to be tough, and it was even tougher than we thought. We hoped to get the lead and we did. If we had scored a third goal, it would be a lot less stressful - this way it was very nervous. I really give full value to our boys - every single one of then - they gave it everything. I think we deserved to advance to the finals.

Coach of USA Red: I give the Slovakian team full credit, they really outplayed us. Coming into the game, we knew the special teams would play a huge part of it; they scored one goal on the power play and the second shorthanded. It was a special teams battle, and we came out short. Our guys played okay, but we did not play our best game, and the Slovaks did, they played a really good game. They are always a very disciplined team, they won the special teams battle and the game.
