Battle of tournament favorites! Canadian women beat Slovaks 3-0

28. 6. 2018 | Johan Čáp
The Slovaks and Canadians have been two of the most dominant teams in women´s ball hockey this decade and therefore, not surprisingly, the head-to-head game between them was very entertaining and tough right from the start. Eventually, Canada prevailed 3-0.

Canada played with lots of effort to score the first goal and accomplished this task after 11 minutes, thanks to the fast and accurate shot of Jessica Davis. The Slovak women tried to tie the score during the second period, but the Canadians didn´t make any mistakes in the defensive zone and also checked all of Slovkia´s dangerous scorers. However, the Canadians scored once again a few minutes before the second break and this was the decisive moment of the game.

The Canadians maintained their two-goal advantage and added one more goal in the third period to take three important points to start this Junior World Cup.

Reactions

Coach of Slovakia: We didn´ť play so bad, but on the other hand, we expected that we could play a bit better. We weren´t successful in controlling the ball and also in other aspects. Nevertheless, Canada is always very strong opponent, so they played absolutely better than us.

Coach of Canada:The game was very even, the chances were going back and forth both ways. As the game progressed, I think the Slovaks were getting tired a little bit. It wasn´t a typical 3-0 game, because Slovakia played really well and we had to stop some breakaways. I also really appreciate that our goalie got her first shutout.
