First no-problem win for US women! Americans defeat Great Britain

28. 6. 2018 | Johan Čáp
The USA under-20 women made their debut at this year´s Junior World Cup against Great Britain, who were shut out earlier in the day by the host Czechs. While the score was closer this time, they lost again 4-0, still searching for their first goal. Julia Cutler scored three goals and Victoria Biagetti recorded the shutout for the victorious Americans.

The first period of the game was very even, full of chances and rushes. The pre-game expectations considered the Americans as favourites, but the British squad was superior during the first few minutes. However, in the second period Americans got better and scored twice. When American forward Julia Cutler added her second goal in the game, the Britons were losing 3-0. Eventually, Cutler completed her hat-trick in the third period, as the Americans maintained their advantage without any big problems and got their first win at the Junior World Cup.

Reactions

Coach of the USA: Our girls worked really hard, really tough in the forecheck and also had lots of shots on goal. That was the key to our win. We have here a really young team and we still have some things to work on, but I´m satisfied with our performance. In the first period we were a little bit nervous, but we tightened it up and got the decisive advantage.

Coach of Great Britain: It was a fabulous game by all the girls, as they played together as one team. This was a fantastic performance, really tough, such result with one of the famous teams of the ball hockey family is super for us. The Junior World Cup, or generally such types of events, are fantastic. Great atmosphere, great organisation.
