Czech women beat Slovaks 7-0 in federal derby

29. 6. 2018 | Johan Čáp
For Slovaks and Czechs, it doesn´t exist more prestigious than the "federal derby" and for the U20 national teams at the Junior World Cup, the two teams from the former Czechoslovakia went head to head, with the Czechs having few problems with a 7-0 win.

The Czechs took the lead very early and, in fact, they were superior during the whole game. Even though all predictions expected tougher game, the Czech junior women scored seven times and achieved the third win at Junior World Cup. With that, the Czechs are now assured a spot in the gold medal game and, after such a dominant performance, the host team has to be considered to have a good chance to win it all.

Reactions

Slovakia Coach: It´s really hard to assess the game. We were in a bad frame of mind after the early goal, and maybe that was the key moment of the whole game. The Czechs were in good shape, we were a little bit tired after the previous match with Great Britain. It´s likely that high temperatures were also one of the factors that didn´t help us.

Czech Republic Coach: I really appreciate our performance. We put forth a fantastic effort and played with passion. We accomplished our biggest goal at this tournament – advancing to the final of the U20 category. And for sure, we really want to win the gold medal! The federal derby usually has really tough and even games and this one wasn´t an exception. The early goal helped us considerably, so after that we were better in all facets.
