Canada took the lead first, but the Slovaks didn´t stay behind for long and tied the game before the end of the first period. The second period didn´t start well for Canada, with Slovakia scoring almost immediately to take the lead. But they battled back to tie the game and then took the lead back before the period was over.

The back and forth play continued in the third period, with the Slovaks back in the lead and looking for the win. But Canada confirmed their strong and top seed position, and withy three goals at the end of the game, won this hard battle 7–5.

Reactions

Coach of Team Canada East: It was brilliant game, and it depended a lot on who got the breaks. Slovakia is a really strong team, but we achieved our goal and we won a very big game. We stayed strong on defence a had a lot of good chances. When we tied the game in the third period, we had a lot of energy and the boys wanted to win this tough game. You can´t believe how the guys on this team support each other and that can decide an important battle like this.

Coach of team Slovakia: It was really fast game, i think. We are quite disappointed, because we could have won it. We led in the third period and we weren´t able to maintain it until the end. Canada was better in one-to-one battles and that was the difference. Those three goals in last six minutes of the game broke us.
