Slovaks beat USA in U20 bronze-medal preview

30. 6. 2018 | Šimon Albrecht
With both teams already knowing they´ll be facing each other in tomorrow´s bronze-medal game, this last group-stage game between the United States and Slovakia was merely a warm-up with little intensity. But the Slovaks were the better team, bouncing back from the loss to Canada to give them confidence. A power-play goal in the seventh minute Nikoleta Randova was all the offence Slovakia would need in a 1-0 win.

Reactions

Coach of Slovakia: It was really difficult, as is every game in this tournament. We needed to be more self-confident after the big loss against Canada. We are a very young team, we play against much older players and each win helps us. Tommorrow we have another match-up against the USA. It will be battle for third place and we hope we can win.

Coach of the United states: It was tough game against an unpleasant team, but I liked it. The biggest factor was the play of the goalies. The Slovaks were a bit better in battles and they deserved to win. Tommorrow we expect a similar match. It will not be easy.
