The game was played in a really loud atmosphere as the fans kept supporting both teams. The first period was tight, players of both teams battled hard for every ball and for every shot. American forward David Gray scored the only goal of the first on a five-on-three power play. The Swiss players tried to tie the score as soon as possible but Victoria Biagetti stayed perfect and caught all of the shots. So the score stayed 1–0 with the United States in the lead after the first period.
In the second period, the tough battle continued and especially the Swiss players seemed very motivated. The play was full of emotions and attacks. Switzerland got an interesting opportunity to score thanks to two power plays and really pushed their opponents but the Americans managed to kill both of them. And a few minutes later, they even scored their second goal. David Gray was the one who fired goalie Nicolas Jordi. No other chances were successful so the score was 2–0 after thirty minutes.
Early in the third, the Swiss players scored on a power play and made the story more dramatic. Matteo Bachler put Switzerland up on the board. The first goal started up the Swiss offensive machine so the Americans got many times under a hard pressure. The time started going by faster and faster as Switzerland couldn’t achieve the tying goal. Two minutes before the end the Swiss bench took a timeout and pulled the goalie. Even though Switzerland made up an enormous pressure in the attacking zone, the American defense stayed tight and didn’t let the ball into the net.
