The 2018 Ball Hockey Junior World Cup starts next Thursday, June 28, and over the course of four days, 10 teams of young ball hockey players from all over the world will battle each other for precious medals. Read below to see how the tournament is structured.

It´s coming! In late June and the first day of July, Zlín and Přerov will host ball hockey´s most prestigious event for U16 boys. A fantastic opportunity to watch some of the world´s best young ball hockey players at the Junior World Cup in Přerov and Zlín! The latest event of International Street and Ball Hockey Federation will be the sport festival of youth, which will provide four days full of entertainment and top-notch ball hockey featuring U16 boys and U20 girls national teams. The Organizing Committee has arranged a simple ticketing system for all spectators, with daily passes allowing fans to visit both tournament venues on the same day withou buying another ticket.

The last ISBHF Junior Ball Hockey Championship took place in 2016 in Sheffield, England. For the last time, the U18 category was the part of this tournament. The "Bix Six" (USA, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain, Slovakia, Czech Republic) of ball hockey showed its biggest talents here, but in fact the Canadian roster was the most successful and most talented. The Canadians won all their games at the tournament, and not surprisingly received the gold medals after a big final win against the defending champion from Slovakia.

The host Czech Republic won the first game of the Women´s Junior World Cup in Prerov, defeating Great Britain 7-0. Adéla Jůzková scored two goals, Barbora Patočková recorded four assists, and two Czech goalies combined for the shutout.

The first ever U20 women´s game at the Junior World Cup pitted the host Czech Republic and Great Britain against each other. The Czechs were dominant from the game´s beginning, didn´t let the Brits play with the ball, and with ease won 7-0. After her three-assist performance, Czech forward Lucie Kubínová spoke about the game.

The first game of Group A of U16 boys´ tournament was a meeting between Slovakia and Great Britain. The Slovaks got into the lead at the game´s very beginning, as it took just two minutes for them to score. In the first period they took advantage of their great offence and built up an impressive four-goal lead. They stayed with their offensive play throughout the game and, although there were some fisticuffs on the floor, they decimated Team GB 14-0.

Seven different players scored as Canada West displayed a balanced attack, defeating USA Blue 7-0 in the first game for both teams in Zlin.

The Slovaks and Canadians have been two of the most dominant teams in women´s ball hockey this decade and therefore, not surprisingly, the head-to-head game between them was very entertaining and tough right from the start. Eventually, Canada prevailed 3-0.

The USA under-20 women made their debut at this year´s Junior World Cup against Great Britain, who were shut out earlier in the day by the host Czechs. While the score was closer this time, they lost again 4-0, still searching for their first goal. Julia Cutler scored three goals and Victoria Biagetti recorded the shutout for the victorious Americans.

Team USA U20 played its first game against Great Britain, and although the Americans were favoured to win, they started slowly. The British team was very passive, but the Americans couldn´t score any goals in the first period. During the game the USA´s fortunes improved, they started to get better and and easily won. But was it so easy? A lot of things, answered Julia Cutler, who scored three goals in the game.

Another interesting chapter in a huge rivalry. That´s what the game between Canada East and USA Red was, with Team USA emerging triumphant 2-0 in a mildly surprising result. Although Canada had more chances, the Americans were more opportunistic, which was the deciding factor. Goaltender Calvin O´Connel played a huge role as well. It was his first shutout at an international tournament. What does he think about the game? Was it so hard to guard the net against the tough Eastern Canadians?

The United States women´s U20 team had no problem against Great Britain on Thursday afternoon, but after less than five hours later, fell 5-1 to the host Czechs. The Czechs played with lots of effort and had a wide edge in play in all three periods. The lone goal-scorer from the US team was Jennifer Fisher, who got her first goal at Junior World Cup, but it was very late help for the USA. The Czech women have six points after the first day of the tournament and now have a very good chance to be playing for a medal on Sunday.

After losing their opener earlier in the day to Canada West, the USA Blue team earned its first win of this Junior World Cup, defeating Poland 5-1 in the last game of the day in Zlin. After also losing their opener, the Poles are still searching for their first points.
